Newsletter - Choose Life (Nov2012)

[Edition month: Nov2012 ]

I call on heaven and earth as witnesses today that I have offered you life or death, blessings or curses. Choose life so that you and your descendants will live.
[Deuteronomy 30:19]

We always had a plan and expectation of our life and needs from the moment we are born… like what we what to eat, what we should wear, where we should stay, what all we need to posses etc. Let it be kids, adults or elders… This is a fact which we are all aware of knowing or unknowingly.

Deuteronomy 30:19 "I call on heaven and earth as witnesses today that I have offered you life or death, blessings or curses. Choose life so that you and your descendants will live."

The verse under reference highlights what God convey for Israelite, which is equally important and relevant in our current time also as it was when it was actually given out. God had offered us life or death and blessing or curse. It’s obvious that we will choose life and blessing, but that’s not what is relevant if we see the way we live our life. That’s what God also highlighted for people to select if they had any confusion.

Deuteronomy 30: 19 "… Choose life so that you and your descendent will live"

If we study the Word of God, living life has a meaning and its rules and regulations. Bible defines exactly how we should life our life the way God wants to give us.

The main thing or aspect of life for us among all those mentioned above is food. We work day and night at times extra to make sure we make money to get food. We feel hungry and food is a very important aspect of living a life. We at our own logic and plan start working and at times only concentrate on getting the food. In our current time we have different variety and taste of food. Consider the scenario when we go to an ice-cream or bakery shop. The smell of the food items tempts us to have and eventually we turn us buying all possible to fulfill our appetite. Now a day’s our appetite depends on the food and not our body. Eventually we can see the aftereffects of the food in our life at a later stage like obesity, cholesterol, stomach disorder and other related outcomes.

Let see what the bible says about what we eat or what we wear…

Matthew 6: 26 "Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?"

Following verse compares us to birds which were also created around the same period when man was created. We had been given the special privilege of being made in the likeness of God. We had also been given the authority over all birds, animals and other things which are on the face of earth. Yet this verse highlight a very important view about the care given by God to these birds and animals which we something takes it for granted. Do we ever know or realize how birds get food for them and their family. Like the verse says “they do not sow or reap or store away in barns” like us, and yet you can almost always see them eating food. How provides them with food even when they do not sow or reap… It’s our God. “Yet your heavenly Father feeds them”. If we read carefully, it says “your father”, which means our heavenly father who made us feeds the birds, so as the next verse highlights “Are you not much more valuable than they?”

Yes we are… from the start of the bible till the end Gods only purpose was to get his people (us) closer to God and his plans. For these people (us) only he gave his Son to be died and save us from our sins and its punishment.

John3: 16 "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life."

If we read further, we can see what God says about what we eat or what we wear…

Matthew 6: 31-33 "So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’.... But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you."

Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all that we need to for our life will be added to us. What a great message… Now let’s see some reference from the Word of God on how to seek the kingdom of God:

Matthew 5: 20 "I can guarantee that unless you live a life that has God’s approval and do it more faithfully than the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven."

and his righteousness (adhering to moral principles): Righteousness simply put together is the condition of being in right relationship with the Lord. Jesus was in right relationship with God as no one else can be. He is the Son of God. He is God manifest in the flesh.

2Cor 10:5 "Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ"

If we see our Lord’s temptation, one of the temptations was related to food. This is the same scenario where we are also tempted. We usually fall to that not caring about our body.

Matthew 4: 1-4 "Then the Spirit led Jesus into the desert to be tempted by the devil. Jesus did not eat anything for 40 days and 40 nights. At the end of that time, he was hungry. The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become loaves of bread.”Jesus answered, “Scripture says, ‘A person cannot live on bread alone but on every word that God speaks.’ "

We see the response from Lord which says “A person cannot live on bread alone but on every word that God speaks.” This clearly highlights the importance of God’s word in our life, which is to be taken on priority above any other food that we think can help us sustain our life. Next time we go to have food to quench our hunger (physical body); we should start analyzing on the amount of spiritual food that we had provided to our life (spiritual body). Choose life with the proper nourishment of the Word of God and the faith that God will provide us all that we needs in our life to make it a blessing.

Praise the Lord...
